In this article, we'll guide you through to work out the best Cura profile for our Kingroon KP3S 3D printer. The profile would cover key values in Cura settings for the print of the most common 3D print material PLA, ABS, and TPU filaments.
How to Set Cura Profile on the Software
You can access to the Cura profile through the following steps:
Preferences > Printers > Add Printer > Add a non-networked printer.
Scroll to “Kingroon”, expand the section, and select Kingroon KP3S or Kingroon KP3.
Now you already accessed to the basic Cura settings for your printer.

ABS Cura Profile for Kingroon KP3S
Basics about ABS filament
ABS is an abbreviation for acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, a material with great mechanical properties and higher temperature resistance. ABS filament is more often used in prototyping and printing functional parts.
Tips for 3D print with ABS
Before printing with ABS filament, you should be aware of these things.
1. ABS filament is hydroscopic; always keep your ABS filament dry in a dry box
2. ABS filament is sensitive to changing ambient temperature; place your 3D printer inside an enclosure, and your 3D print with ABS will be more stable.
3. ABS filament doesn't stick well to print bed and tends to warp; always use a glue stick and apply some glue (or ABS slurry) onto the print bed when print with ABS.
Important parameters for ABS printing on KP3S
Printing Temperature:240℃
Initial Printing Temperature:250℃
Build Plate Temperature:100℃
Build Plate Temperature Initial Layer:100℃
Retraction Distance: 1.0mm
Retraction Speed: 20mm/s
Cooling: Off
Build Plate Adhesion: Brim
1. Set higher printing and bed temperatures
Comparing with PLA, ABS filament needs much higher printing temperature to melt and higher build temperature. It's tested that 240℃ for printing temperature, 250℃ for initial printing temperature, 100℃ for build plate temperature are suitable for ABS printing on KP3S. You can try these temps on other printers and adjust according to the result.
2. Set lower retraction speed
For retraction settings, the retraction distances for PLA and ABS printing are the same. But much lower retraction speed is needed for ABS printing. 20mm/s is recommended to print ABS on KP3S, while the retraction speed for PLA printing reaches 80mm/s.
3. Turn off fan cooling
Blower fan near the nozzle produces temperature gradients and leads to temperature differences. These greatly affect printing qualities with ABS filament. Make sure cooling is disabled to proceed.
4. Use "Brim" to ensure build plate adhesion
ABS filament does not stick to build plate well. To assist with build plate adhesion while printing ABS, never forget to select "Brim" as "Build Plate Adhesion Type".
TPU Cura Profile for Kingroon KP3S
Basics about TPU filament
TPU is an abbreviation for thermoplastic polyurethane, a flexible and abrasion resistant thermoplastic. TPU filament offers many benefits for 3D printed parts, which are flexible, durable, resistant to chemicals and withstand up to 80℃ ambient temperature.
Tips for 3D print with TPU
Printing with TPU also requires more than with PLA. Before you proceed, be aware of below things.
1. 3D printer with direct drive extruder is more preferred for TPU printing than a Bowden 3D printer, which makes Kingroon KP3S a good option. A Bowden extruder connects to the hotend with a long PTFE tube, which means a long distance for the filament to travel into the hotend; on the other side, a direct drive extruder is mounted directly onto the hotend, simply pushing the filament to the nozzle. Shorter distance means less filament clog, coil, and some issues that would happen on soft and flexible filament like TPU.
2. Similar to ABS filament, TPU filament absorbs moisture quick and it's better to be kept in a dry box.

Layer Height: 0.2mm
Initial Layer Height: 0.28mm
Infill Density: 8%
Printing Temperature:220℃
Initial Printing Temperature:220℃
Build Plate Temperature:40℃
Build Plate Temperature Initial Layer:40℃
Print Speed: 35mm/s
Retraction Distance: 3.5mm
Retraction Speed: 40mm/s
1. Use appropriate layer height
As we tested, using 0.2mm layer height and 0.28mm initial layer height offers better result when printing TPU with KP3S. You can slightly vary these values and test out the best result for your printer.
2. Set lower infill density
Lower infill density is crucial to retain your 3D print with great flexibility as your raw TPU filament. For this purpose, infill density around 8% is recommended here.
3. Medium printing temperature but lower build temperature
The printing temperatures for TPU filament is just in the middle of PLA and ABS printing. On the Kingroon KP3S, 220℃ is just the right value.
But for the build plate, lower temperatures are much friendlier for TPU filament. It is understandable when takes the softness of TPU into consideration.
4. Apply longer retraction distance
Unlike ABS printing, a longer retraction distance of 3.5mm is recommended for TPU printing on KP3S.
5. No Raft for TPU printing
When printing with TPU, never select "Raft" as the build plate adhesion type. Enabled Raft means higher extrusion rate on the bottom layer, which leads to various problems.
PETG Cura Profile for Kingroon KP3S
Basics about PETG filament
PETG is a great material to replace ABS. It is highly recommended if you are longing for some material to print parts or accessories that require durability and high strength. Compare with ABS, PETG is much easier to print. It requires no enclosure and prints with no bad smell.
Tips for 3D print with PETG
PETG is quite sticky, so stringing would be a huge problem. So you might want to close the “Z hop” and turn on “Avoid Printed Parts When Traveling” and “Avoid Supports When Traveling”.
On the other hand, using some glue or the LAC Spray is another trick to print well.
Important parameters for PETG printing on KP3S
Printing Temperature:235℃
Initial Printing Temperature:235℃
Build Plate Temperature:75℃
Build Plate Temperature Initial Layer:75℃
Retraction Distance: 1.0mm
Retraction Speed: 40mm/s
Cooling: On
Fan Speed:20%-40%
